South Nassau Christian Church has an interesting history. A small group of Christians
began meeting for Bible study and worship in 1971, assisted by the Go Ye Chapel Mission church-planting organization. Though
our congregation is self-supporting and congregationally governed, we recognize that Christ Himself is the head of the church.
And we gladly join with the thousands of other Christian churches who share our goal of restoring the basic, clear, Christ-centered
faith and practice of the New Testament church. The apostle Paul's words in Ephesians 4:15 have served as our motto: "speaking
the truth in love."
After
meeting in four rented buildings, the congregation purchased our property in Baldwin in 1979. The church building was first
constructed in 1927 and was used as a mission of the Episcopal Church for many years. Some called it "All Saints Chapel"
or "The Church of St. Clement," but most residents of Baldwin simply refer to our meeting place as "the fisherman's
church" because of our unique and lovely location near the sea. Floods have surrounded the buildings many times, and
in 1966, a fire nearly destroyed it. But as the Psalmist said, "we went through fire and water, but you brought us to
a place of abundance" (Psalm 66:12) Clearly, the Lord has important work to be done in this place. Not only has the property
been beautifully preserved, but many people have been united in the common goal of serving Christ. We have experienced steady
growth over the years, and we pray for continued growth as the Lord adds to our number those who are being saved (Acts 2:47).
It is my sincere hope that we will
always be "a fisherman's church," for Jesus calls us to be "fishers of men" (Mark 1:17). He calls
us to remember that the church is not just a building; it is people. He calls
us to care for one another with brotherly love and reach out to those who do not yet know of His love (Hebrews 13:1, Matthew
28:18-20). May this directory help us maintain strong ties of fellowship with one another so that we can carry the gospel
of Christ to a world in need.
Your Co-Worker
in the Cause of Christ,
David M. Faust (Former Minister)
